Buchanan, Safe Haven funds accepting applications
Milford. Area nonprofits are encouraged to apply.
Two funds at Greater Pike Community Foundation will be accepting grant applications from area nonprofits between February 10 and March 10.
The Barbara J. Buchanan Fund provides grants of up to $500 for community organizations with innovative ideas in the arts and culture, basic human needs, health, families, education, and the environment.
The Safe Haven Legacy Fund provides grants to organizations in Pike County that help survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault find permanent, safe housing.
“These grants can have a profound impact on our area by supporting our local nonprofits in their work to address community needs and create lasting change,” said Rick Little, executive director at Greater Pike Community Foundation. “We’re honored to continue Barbara Buchanan’s legacy and Safe Haven’s mission by helping fund the critical work of these organizations.”
The Barbara J. Buchanan Fund, named for the late philanthropist and community leader, has provided financial support to dozens of local organizations since it was established as Greater Pike’s first fund a decade ago. Recent recipients include the Grey Towers Heritage Association, Pike Autism Support Services of Northeast Pennsylvania, Pike County Public Library, and Pike County Historical Society. The Safe Haven Legacy Fund was established at Greater Pike in 2020 following the dissolution of Safe Haven of Pike County. The goal of the fund is to provide grant awards to nonprofit organizations in Pike County assisting victims of domestic violence and sexual assault with rent, utilities, or other permanent housing-related needs. VIP Empowers, Family Promise of the Poconos, and Pike County Human Services have received grants through this program in the past.
