Carl Will
MILFORD. Challenger Carl Will (Republican) is running for director of the Delaware Valley school board.
Why are you running for school board?
It’s time to give back to a district that gave me so much. I attribute all my successes to Delaware Valley. I want to be a part of ensuring that future generations at DV get the same opportunities I did.
What are the top three issues facing the district today and how do you plan to address them?
They are parental rights, budget concerns and capital expenditures, communication with the public, and transparency.
My first plan is to allow people to ask questions and receive reasonable answers. I do not find it appropriate that questions are typically not answered in a public setting. Director Cory Homer had previously requested that all inquiries be posted online with the answers, and I intend to advocate for that to happen.
Second, a more comprehensive discussion needs is needed regarding capital expenditures, specifically, the item removed from the last board meeting agenda: the district office expansion. Other options could be explored, including real estate acquisitions within the district. To move office personnel to that would cost far less than the proposed $2.5 million plan.
Third, I plan to be a strong voice for parental rights. Parents have a right to say what goes on in their child’s education and to know what is happening with their child inside the school. I will staunchly defend these rights every chance I can get.
What sets you apart from your challengers?
My ability to listen first, and then react, is one of my key attributes that I will bring to the board table. I have experience working with many different types of people and on many different projects.
I also hold a unique perspective of the district, having graduated 10 years ago. I am more in tune with how students are educated today than others seeking this position.
