Casting a line in the Delaware River

Students from the Delaware Valley Middle School Fishing Club try their luck in the Delaware River which runs just behind their school.

The Fishing Club was the idea of DVMS Assistant Principal and fisherman, Mark McElroy, who runs it with Social Studies teacher and outdoorsman, Micah Sweeney. The idea was to share with students the natural beauty that lies right in their own backyard and to teach them a life-long skill.

The club averages 20 students and they are often joined by a variety of staff members casting a line alongside them. Students practice catch and release methods and have caught small mouth, channel catfish, sunfish, and fallfish.
