Children’s Liturgy of The Word introduced at St. Patrick’s
Milford. This program will be held each Sunday.
Starting this fall, St. Patrick’s Parish in Milford is inviting all children of the parish, ages 5-10, to participate in the Children’s Liturgy of the Word as part of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, Sundays at 11 a.m., at St. Patrick’s Church on High and 4th streets.
Each Sunday, before the scripture readings begin, the children are called forth and sent with a blessing to a separate room for a gospel lesson. They will hear the same scriptures that are proclaimed at mass, but explained on a level that younger children can understand. The children will return to their family in church after the creed, as the offertory and liturgy of the eucharist begins.
According to the Catechism of the Catholic Church, “The Sunday eucharist is the foundation and confirmation of all Christian practice.” The Children’s Liturgy of the Word is reflective of Jesus’ instruction to “Let the children come to me, and do not prevent them for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.”
This new program is being coordinated by catechists Laurie Barcia of Milford and Christine Sell, also of Milford. Parents, grandparents, and guardians are invited to consider volunteering their time in support of this important new program. For more information, call 908-451-1206 or 570-296-7451.
