Council passes new taxi driver law
Port Jervis. The Port Jervis Saint Patrick’s Day parade will be held March 2.
Two local laws were passed at the February 10 Port Jervis Common Council meeting. Local Law No. 2 of 2025 changes the taxi license approval process for convicted felons. The law states, “The Common Council is of the opinion that a case-by-case appeal process should be made available to such persons seeking a taxi license from the City [and] should have the opportunity to have their application evaluated by the Council for a determination of whether the felony conviction would prevent the applicant from driving a taxi within the City without compromising public safety.”
Local Law No. 3 of 2025 deals with an increase in the size of some water meters, from six inches to between 8 and 12 inches. “Presently, there are no provisions governing the fees to be charged for water usage regulated by certain sized water meters and this Local Law is intended to add such water meters to the City Code,” the law states.
