— The Dime Bank donated $5,000 to the Greater Pike County Community Foundation and $5,000 to the American Readers Theatre by way of the Educational Improvement Tax Credit Program.
The program funds innovative educational programs in science, technology, engineering, and math in the Delaware Valley School District. In 2016-17, the money will assist two advanced science-based programs that use digital microscopes and include a science summer camp.
The American Readers Theatre promotes literacy through the performing arts. This year’s Writer’s Project will branch out beyond traditional writers. Fourth-graders from Delaware Valley, Dingman-Delaware, and Shohola Elementary will participate in a month-long Heartsongs Writer’s Project, which will integrate classic literature and performing arts with required reading and core curriculum in language arts, science, and social studies. The learning objectives will be summarized in the final presentation to fellow students.
Executive Director Jenni Hamill of the Greater Pike County Community Foundation said the foundation "greatly values their partnership with The Dime Bank, the DVSD, and the PA Department of Community and Economic Development. Working together through the EITC program we are able to make an important contribution to the students in our area and help prepare them for successful futures. A true community endeavor."
