Dingman allows shooting range in resort district
DINGMAN — Dingman supervisors agreed to permit shooting ranges in the township's RC (Resort Commercial) District.
William Buchanan of Buchanan Gunsmithing & Custom Firearms attended the Aug. 6 supervisors' meeting with six supporters of a zoning ordinance amendment that will add a conditional use in the RC District for shooting ranges. Buchanan intends to convert a closed motel on state Route 6, near the Shohola line, into a weapons firing range for use by private individuals and police.
Before the amendment, the township already allowed shooting ranges, but not in the RC District.
Buchanan told the Courier he has been in business for five years. Prior to that, he was in law enforcement for 27 years in Essex County, N.J., he said.
He carries a federal firearms license, which gives him permission to buy, sell, and repair weapons. He is also a certified armorer and is permitted to work on specific arms manufacturers' products, including Colt, Smith and Wesson, Glock, and others.
