Club members got up close and personal with red-eared slider turtles.

The Pocono Environmental Education Center’s Derek Scott explained the physical and behavioral changes that local animals experience to be better suited to cold winter days.

The students also had the opportunity to feel different animal furs.

Derek Scott from the Pocono Environmental Education Center brought a black rat snake to a recent meeting of the Dingman-Delaware Middle School Environmental and Nature Club.
With snow on the ground and temperatures hovering around freezing, it was the perfect day for students in the Dingman-Delaware Middle School Environmental and Nature Club to explore how animals adapt to winter conditions.
Club members learned about physical and behavioral changes that local animals experience to be better suited to cold winter days.
Students discussed the difference between dormancy and true hibernation and had the opportunity to feel different animal furs.
Special guests included Derek Scott from the Pocono Environmental Education Center, a red-eared slider, and a black rat snake!
