Dispositions in Pike County Court
Milford. Pike County District Attorney Raymond J. Tonkin announced the criminal sentences issued the week of May 24 by Pike County Court of Common Pleas President Judge Gregory Chelak.
Reginald J. Baptiste, 46, of Bushkill, Pa., was sentenced to 1 year to 7 years in a state correctional institution, fined $3,000, and had his driver’s license suspended for a duration to be determined by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) for the crimes of Fleeing or Attempting to Elude a Police Officer and Driving Under the Influence. Baptiste failed to stop for a posted DUI checkpoint along Stoney Hollow Road in Lehman Township on June 1, 2019. A trooper pursued Baptiste, who failed an order to stop and traveled at high rates of speed. When Baptiste was apprehended, he was observed to have bloodshot, dilated eyes and had an odor of marijuana. Baptiste admitted to ingesting cocaine and marijuana earlier in the day. Baptiste refused to submit to a blood test.
Kaevon Ramel Ali, 20, of Brooklyn, N.Y., was sentenced to 3 months to 23 months in the Pike County Jail, fined $800, and had his driver’s license suspended for 12 months for the crimes of Fleeing or Attempting to Elude a Police Officer, Recklessly Endangering Another Person, and Possession of a Small Amount of Marijuana. The state police attempted to pull over Ali on Aug. 15, 2020, when he was observed crossing the center line several times of I-84 in Blooming Grove Township. Ali exited I-84 and entered SR 402 traveling at a high rate of speed. Ali’s vehicle crossed the lane of SR 507 and struck the embankment and overturned twice before coming to rest. The passenger in Ali’s vehicle was a 17-year-old.
Anthony Robert Miller, 22, of Milford, Pa., was sentenced to 6 months of probation and fined $325 for the crime of Driving Under the Influence and the Summary Offense of Roadway Laned for Traffic. The state police responded to a one-vehicle crash on Nov. 9, 2019, along Christian Hill Road, where Miller exited the roadway and hit an embankment. In speaking with Miller, the trooper detected the smell of an alcoholic beverage and observed Miller to have glassy, bloodshot eyes. Miller admitted to drinking prior to driving. Field sobriety tests showed impairment, and a breath test confirmed a blood-alcohol content of 0.096 percent.
Teddy Ray Mead, 42, of Salisburg Mills, N.Y., was sentenced to the Pike Care Program, which will include 5 years of probation, 90 days of house arrest, a fine of $1,500, and a driver’s license suspension of 18 months for the crime of Driving Under the Influence. The Eastern Pike Regional Police were dispatched on Sept. 24, 2019, to a business parking lot along Route 6 and 209 in Westfall Township, where Mead was involved in a car accident. When the officer spoke with Mead, he observed Mead’s pupils to be constricted and his speech slurred. Field sobriety tests showed impairment, and a blood test confirmed the presence of Alprazolam and Lorazepam in his blood.
Brennen Harley Stevens, 27, of Bushkill, Pa., was sentenced to the Pike Care Program, which will include 5 years of probation, 90 days house arrest, a fine of $1,500, and a driver’s license suspension of 18 months for the crime of Driving Under the Influence. The state police stopped Stevens along Milford Road in Lehman Township on Oct. 10, 2020, for an expired registration. In speaking with Stevens, the trooper detected the smell of an alcoholic beverage and observed Stevens to have glassy, bloodshot eyes. Stevens admitted to drinking alcohol prior to driving. Field sobriety tests showed impairment, and a breath test confirmed a blood-alcohol content of 0.169 percent.
Gregory Jake Lanigan, 57, of Hawley, Pa., was sentenced to 12 months of probation and fined $1,000 for 2 counts of the crime of Simple Assault. On July 4 and July 5, 2020, Lanigan placed two individuals in fear of imminent serious bodily injury through physically menacing acts.
Adrienne Lee Karr, 20, of Sparrowbush, N.Y., was sentenced to 12 months of probation and fined $300 for the crime of Retail Theft. Karr took cigarettes and lottery tickets with a value in excess of $150 without paying for them from a retail store in Matamoras on Sept. 20, 2020.
Rigoberto Jonny Felipe, 40, of Lake Ariel, Pa., was sentenced to 5 days to 6 months in the Pike County Jail, fined $1,000, and had his driver’s license suspended for 12 months for the crime of Driving Under the Influence. Felipe was stopped by the state police while traveling along I-84 in Palmyra Township on Sept. 28, 2020, for tinted windows. Upon speaking with Felipe, the trooper detected the smell of an alcoholic beverage and observed him to have glassy, red eyes. Open alcoholic beverages were present in the vehicle. Field sobriety tests showed impairment. Felipe refused to submit to a breath test.
Manuel Rosa, 23, of Milford, Pa., was sentenced to 72 hours to 5 years in the Pike County Jail, followed by 12 months of probation, a fine of $2,600, and driver’s license suspension of 18 months for the crimes of Driving Under the Influence, Criminal Mischief, and the Summary Offense of Criminal Trespass. Rosa was pulled over along Route 6 and 209 in Westfall Township on Oct. 9, 2020, by the state police for a passenger depositing waste on the highway. Upon making contact with Rosa, the trooper detected the smell of marijuana. Rosa admitted to smoking marijuana. Field sobriety tests showed impairment, and a blood test confirmed the presence of THC in Rosa’s body. On Oct. 10, 2020, Rosa gained entry into a residence in Dingman Township by breaking the glass of a rear entry door knowing that he did not have permission to be there.
Dae-sik Kim, 66, of Bayside, N.Y., was sentenced to 18 months of probation and fined $600 for 2 counts of the crime of Simple Assault. On July 21, 2019, at a residence in Dingman Township, Kim was involved in an argument with two individuals that turned physical, with Kim striking the two individuals, causing injury.
Nicholas Thomas Kersting, 24, of Shohola, Pa., was sentenced to 12 months of probation and fined $300 for the crime of Firearms Not to be Carried Without a License. Kersting was stopped by the state police on Nov. 7, 2020, while traveling along I-84 in Blooming Grove Township for an expired inspection. When contact was made with Kersting, Kersting alerted the trooper of a firearm present in his vehicle. A consent to search the vehicle revealed a concealed pistol that Kersting did not have a permit to possess when he was eligible to obtain a permit.
Delia E. Villa, 37, of East Stroudsburg, Pa., was fined $300 for the crime of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. The state police encountered Villa when they were dispatched to a burglary call at a residence in Lehman Township on June 16, 2020. Villa was found in possession of empty glassine packets.
William Leslie Soltesz, 70, of Bernardsville, N.J., was sentenced to 2 months to 6 months in the Pike County Jail for the crime of Default in Required Appearance. Soltesz failed to return the Pike County Jail on Aug. 28, 2020, at 12 following a granted furlough.
