Elder Justice Day returns for the 10th year
Milford. This August 20 program is organized by the Pike County Area Agency on Aging.
Elder Justice Day, held annually by the Pike County Area Agency on Aging (AAA), gathers professionals from across the state to provide a variety of presentations on various topics pertinent to older adults.
The 10th Annual Elder Justice Day is scheduled for Tuesday, August 20, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Matamoras Senior Center located at the Matamoras Fire House, 506 Avenue Q, Matamoras.
As explained by the county, Elder Justice Day combines educational and engaging presentations with entertaining activities designed to educate older adults on various topics related to aging. Topics to be covered at this year’s event will center around self-care.
In addition to guest speakers, many local organizations will be on-hand to offer information and answer questions on the services they provide. The Drug Take Back program will also be at the event for attendees to safely dispose of unwanted, unused or expired medications.
Protective Service Supervisor Tracy Simon said, “Elder Justice Day is designed with the needs of our seniors in mind. The Elder Abuse Task Force books speakers who can provide information on topics that are currently trending among the senior community as well as the topics seniors have expressed interest in learning more about.”
The AAA requires individuals planning to attend Elder Justice Day to reserve their spot. Registration is free and includes a light breakfast, lunch, and one ticket for the door prize drawing. Registration can be completed by contacting the AAA office at 570-775-5550.
If you require transportation, contact Pike County Transportation at 570-296-3408 to coordinate a ride.
Elder Justice Day is organized by the Pike County Elder Abuse Task Force. The task force was established in 2013 with the mission of educating the public on recognizing, preventing and reporting cases of elder abuse.
