Emergency Medical Technician course offered to address Pike County’s first responder shortage

The Pike County Training Center will offer an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) course from Aug. 3 through Jan. 16, with most classes held on Monday and Wednesday evenings.

The cost is $650 per student, with no charge for Pike County responders who belong to an agency.

Those seeking to become a member of a local agency may be eligible for scholarship assistance through the Pike County Emergency Services Initiative Fund administered by the Greater Pike Community Foundation (GPCF). This fund was made possible by founding gifts from the law firm of Weinstein, Zimmerman & Ohliger; William Lovejoy; and individuals who supported the recent NEPA Gives day of philanthropy. Gifts to the fund can be made online at greaterpike.org or checks can be made payable to GPCF/PCESI and mailed to P.O. Box 992, Milford, PA 18337.

“Greater Pike is pleased to partner with generous individuals and businesses in our area who are concerned about the lack of sufficient emergency services in the county,” says GPCF Executive Director Jennifer Hamill. “This course is a good opportunity for someone who has been considering becoming an EMT to sign up now. Hopefully, the scholarships available from the Pike County Emergency Services Initiative Fund (PCESI) will attract new volunteers and create a stronger support network of emergency responders at a time when these services are particularly important in our county.”

The upcoming EMT course will include 189 hours of training covering segments including: Foundation, Medical, Trauma, Capstone, and National Preparation. Maximum class size is 20.
