Free Thanksgiving dinners for those in need
Milford. Sign up by Nov. 20.
Once again, the tradition of a free community Thanksgiving dinner with all the trimmings, held in Milford for the last 38 years, will continue, for those who cannot be with their families or who are in need. Held on Thanksgiving Day, the meals can be delivered locally if you find it difficult to get out or picked up in Dingman’s Ferry or Milford.
The meal will be prepared this year at the Delaware Township Building on Wilson Hill Road in Dingmans Ferry. The day starts at 8:30 a.m. for a few volunteers who cook the food, since they first pack up and deliver turkey dinners and lots of extras to people in the local Meals on Wheels program or to those that are homebound. The delivery area is limited to the Milford area and surrounding communities (Delaware, Dingman, Milford, Westfall, Matamoras, Port Jervis).
This program is made possible through the efforts of many people. Local businesses make donations to buy the food. Delaware Township provides the facility. Volunteers help with preparation and delivery.
While the organizers cannot do sit-down dinners this year, they will also have free takeout meals available for pickup at two locations: at the Delaware Township Building, Wilson Hill Road in Dingman’s Ferry starting at 11 a.m. or at the Church of the Good Shepherd, Fifth and Catharine in Milford Borough from noon to 1 p.m.
There is one catch...you have to reserve your dinners no later than Wednesday, November 20.
If you know of anyone who would like a meal delivered or for pickup or for any questions, call Steve Davis at 570-228-7699. You can also email your request to stevenpdavis@gmail.com. Be sure to specify how many meals, where to pick up or deliver, and a contact phone number.
