Greater Pike awards more than $40,000 in scholarship aid

Greater Pike Community Foundation recently presented scholarship awards totaling $40,700, including $20,000 in recurring awards to four past recipients, to Delaware Valley, Port Jervis, Kittatinny and Wallenpaupack Area High School seniors who are planning to pursue a variety of academic interests in colleges and universities this fall.
The awards, benefiting 14 students, are from scholarship funds administered by Greater Pike.
“We are so pleased to be able to provide these deserving students with a little bit of financial help as they pursue their academic interests,” said Greater Pike’s Board Chair Gail Shuttleworth.
“The foundation greatly appreciates the generous donors who support these scholarships,” added Ann Morey, Greater Pike Scholarship Committee Chair. “Their support helps these talented youth attend college and pursue their career interests.”
Ann Intili Morey Art Scholarship
Kyndal Alderman of Port Jervis High School was awarded the Ann Intili Morey Art Scholarship to support her freshman year.
In addition, Ava Nienstadt and Madeline Mallon, two Delaware Valley High School alums, will receive recurring awards as they continue their studies in art history and art teacher education.
Amanda Nicole Thoenig Memorial Scholarship
Three students received the Amanda Nicole Thoenig Memorial Scholarship, which is awarded to students who are planning to pursue a degree in the visual arts. Juliana Anderson of Delaware Valley High School plans to study Fine Arts; Brady Anderson of Kittatinny Regional High School plans to pursue an education/special education degree at Millersville University and Taylor Current, also of Kittatinny, will be a film studies major at Muhlenburg University.
This is the second year that Greater Pike distributed awards from the Randy Auman Memorial Scholarship, which supports students pursuing an arts education. Juliana Anderson also received this scholarship.
Art Ridley Spirit of Kindness scholarship
Haley Troup of Delaware Valley High School, who plans to study Speech and Language Pathology at Lebanon Valley College, was awarded The Art Ridley Spirit of Kindness Memorial Scholarship, which is awarded to a student who embodies a spirit of giving in their community and has exhibited acts of kindness to those in need.
Kyle James Pascoe Memorial Scholarship
Four Delaware Valley students were presented the Kyle James Pascoe Memorial Scholarship, awarded to students who have a history of community involvement, spirit of giving, and who have demonstrated excellence in football, track or academics. Kyle’s mother, Sharon Marks, presented this year’s awards to Sophia Ball (Penn State/University Park); Paulie Weinrich (Rochester Institute of Technology); Haley Troup (Lebanon Valley College), and Lucas Pauley (Emmanuel College), who noted in his acknowledgement “Kyle is still a role model at DV.”
Reggie Cheong-Leen & Peter Spielhagen Scholarship
“We also are pleased to be able to provide continued support to two students with recurring scholarships from a scholarship fund that provides multi-year support for the higher education costs of graduates who are first-generation children of immigrants,” Shuttleworth added.
Two DV alumni - Hugo Huerta-Alcaide and Yoshikatsu Sumitomo – received recurring awards from the multi-year Reggie Cheong-Leen & Peter Spielhagen Scholarship,
‘“Syd’s Kids’ Scholarship
The Sydney Fluck “Syd’s Kids” Scholarship is awarded to a student who has demonstrated financial need and has been accepted to a school of higher learning. This selection is made by the Delaware Valley School District staff and is awarded to Vanessa Dunne of Delaware Valley High School for her use this fall studying Fashion and Retail Marketing.
Memorial Gouse Krawitz Scholarship
The Pike County Chamber of Commerce presented three students with the Memorial Gouse Krawitz Scholarship for a senior who excels in academics, citizenship, sports, and community service. Miles Nienstadt of Delaware Valley (Economics/Lafayette College); Gabriella Mancino of Wallenpaupack Area High School (Business/Penn State University), and Carter Brown of East Stroudsburg North High School (Business/Ohio State University).
