Green Trees Early Learning Center receives farm-to-school grant
Milford. The funding will go toward establishing a Sensory Garden, as well as increased agricultural education.
Green Trees Early Learning Center, Inc. of Milford, has been awarded the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture Farm to School Grant, which provides select schools with funding to improve access to healthy, local foods and increase agriculture education opportunities for students in pre-kindergarten through eighth grade.
The grant will support the creation of a new Sensory Garden for children, families, and the community. The garden will be a place for learning and exploration where children will engage in growing various fruits and vegetables, with cooking and taste-testing experiences. While children who attend the center will engage in farm-to-school learning, the Sensory Garden will be a place of gathering for weekend events and activities for families in the community.
“Sensory Gardens invoke the five senses and support social emotional growth and development for children,” said Program Director Cera Alber. “This will be a place where families in our neighborhood can create memories with their children through activities like gardening, yoga and story time.”
Green Trees ELC is a non-profit 501(c)3 licensed early education center. The center provides care to children six weeks through the age of 12 in both school year and summer camp programs. Their mission is to provide education to children of all backgrounds, cultivate strong roots and open the doors to the wonders around.
