Green Trees holds art show with United Way support
Milford. The event included the works of artists from ages 6 weeks to 12 years old
More than 80 children, families, teachers, and friends recently gathered at Green Trees Early Learning Center in Milford for an afternoon of art, creativity, and crafts at the Green Trees Art Show, sponsored by the United Way of Lackawanna, Wayne & Pike.
Green Trees Early Learning Center, Inc., Pike County’s oldest licensed day care center for early childhood education was transformed into a gallery and art exhibition space that included more than 100 artistic works created by talented Green Trees artists ranging from ages 6 weeks to 12 years old. The children’s exhibition consisted of drawings, paintings, paper prints, sculptures, and finger and footprint stamps on wood and canvas.
Unique winter-themed crafts, cookie decorating sponsored by Faith and Freedom Boutique, face painting and delicious sweets baked by generous Green Trees friends and volunteers were all part of the event.
“We are so grateful to the United Way of Lackawanna, Wayne and Pike for making this wonderful event possible for Green Trees Early Learning Center families, teachers and friends,” said Nicole Mele, assistant director and art show organizer. “Building community and bringing families together is so important, and what better way to do that than to celebrate our children’s stunning and creative artworks.”
Founded in 1985, Pennsylvania rates Green Trees as a Keystone STAR 4 care center, the highest designation for early-learning centers in Pennsylvania.
“At this point we’ve been in Pike County for a little over a year, and the presence of the United Way is really starting to shine through; 100% of the funds raised in Pike County stay in Pike County. Today is a wonderful example of that. Fostering creativity and artistic expression not only falls within our education area of focus but also our health focus for these young scholars. Expressing yourself through creativity sets up a great path to success for a healthy mind is a powerful tool,” added Gary Drapek, president and CEO, United Way of Lackawanna, Wayne & Pike.
