Gross — but awesome!

    My name is Alivia Wieder. We were pulling bones out of an owl pellet. I had a gross face. The owl pellets were, too. I had fun! My partner was Rainna Carr. We had fun! Also, Rainna was like “gross, gross, gross” about the pellets. They were fun!

When we opened the owl pellets the first thing we saw was black fur. We had two skulls. It was really cool and gross! We had to take all the bones and transfer them to a piece of paper to make it look like it was real.

    I am Chloe Wade, the one in the picture. In the picture I am dissecting an owl pellet. It was very disgusting doing it. My partner and I found rib bones, leg bones, jaw bones, and some other bones. It was very fun … and disturbing. We had to separate the bones from the fur, and that was very hard to do. I had to stick my finger in some of the bones, but then again I had to be very, very careful.

MILFORD — Our class has been studying the life adventures of owls. A part of the daily life of an owl is the obnoxious habit of coughing up and regurgitating an owl pellet.

What is an owl pellet? An owl pellet is a ball of the leftover remains of their food that is hard to digest. Gross!

When we carefully opened up the owl pellets we found skulls and other bones of all sorts. Unfortunately, the bones were mixed in with the most unbelievable mixture of undigested fur, scales, and skin. It was a lot of work to separate the bones from all the other material. Some students found as many as three skulls in one pellet!

We glued the bones on a piece of paper to display them.
