Historical Society to host open house honoring Barbara J. Buchanan
Milford. Stop by, eat a hot dog, and learn about membership.
From noon to 2 p.m. on Thursday, June 20, the Pike County Historical Society will host an open house, short membership meeting, and membership drive in honor of past president and philanthropist Barbara J. Buchanan.
On June 20, 1988, the Pike County Commissioners declared June 20 Barbara J. Buchanan Day due to her efforts on behalf of the Pike County Historical Society. It was her determination and drive that helped the museum in its campaign to put the blood-stained Lincoln Flag on the map, and Buchanan was proud to have a thread from the Lincoln Flag incorporated into the National 9/11 Flag, forever uniting these two historical flags in hopes of healing our nation after the events of Sept. 11, 2001. The National 9/11 Flag can be viewed at the National 9/11 Museum in New York City and the Lincoln Flag is housed at The Columns Museum as part of its permanent collection.
Current and potential new members are invited for a complimentary hot dog or hamburger and to meet newly elected officers and tour the museum.
