Internship opportunities at Lacawac Sanctuary

Lacawac Sanctuary at 94 Sanctuary Road, Lake Ariel, has a few intern opportunities for undergraduate students interested in lake health, ecology, and other environmental fields.
Lacawac’s Pocono Lake Ecological Observatory Network, or PLEON, is looking for an intern to work 20 to 30 hours a week from about May 12 to August 15. PLEON is a lake monitoring program based at Lacawac Sanctuary. PLEON conducts routine lake monitoring, hosts public education workshops focused on promoting good lake stewardship, and runs a community-led water quality monitoring program on Lake Wallenpaupack. The internship includes training in lake ecology and water quality sampling, lab analysis, use of experimental design and the scientific method, lab and field safety, project management and more. Applicants must be working towards a degree in the natural sciences and/or have an interest in aquatic ecology, conservation, and management. Previous field or laboratory research experience in freshwater ecosystems is preferred.
The Sanctuary is also looking for a science intern to participate in field work and laboratory analysis, educational and public programs for all ages, outreach activities, trail maintenance, and event preparation/clean-up. They will also train in lake ecology and water quality sampling methodology, lab analysis, lab and field safety, project management, and other disciplines. This is entry level position; previous field and research experience is welcome, but not required. Interns will work 20 to 30 hours a week from about May 14 to August 15.

The Sanctuary also has a visual media internship opportunity. The intern will work with Lacawac’s staff to capture events, programs, summer camps, etc. to be used on the Sanctuary’s website and in marketing materials. Candidates will need to know how to organize, resize, and retouch images and video for marketing purposes. The candidate must be pursuing a bachelor’s degree in photography digital design and visual media art, mass communications, marketing or related fields, and with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
