Library devotees gather for a fundraising dinner in the woods

Anyone who has ever visited a branch of the Pike County Public Library knows what a valuable resource it is. To show their appreciation, about one hundred supporters gathered for the library's annual fundraising dinner held Nov. 2 at the Pocono Environmental Education Center — a venue literally in the woods.
The dinner’s theme was based on the autobiographical memoir “A Walk in the Woods” by travel writer Bill Bryson. The dinner also paid tribute to the library’s board president, Kirk Mackey, for his service.
The date couldn’t have been more appropriate for Rose Chiocchi, since it fell on her fifth anniversary as the library's executive director. Chiocchi thanked the library's sponsors and the donors.
"We couldn’t do what we do without the support of everybody in our community, and we really appreciate it," she said.
She told The Courier that she loves her job.
“No day’s the same," she said. "It has been challenging but fun, and I have an amazing staff and love this community.”
In fact, Chiocchi grew up in Shohola, so she’s no stranger to the area.
Everyone agreed the food was delicious and the event was a success. All proceeds from the dinner went toward funding the essential services the library provides to the public.
