Log Tavern Brewing Co. opens in Milford

— Craft beer enthusiasts Ryan Scott and Joe Fischer teamed up to create Log Tavern Brewing Co. The story of how these founders made this establishment come to be is as impressive as the tasty microbrews now tumbling from the taps.
Scott and Fischer were looking for the perfect place to turn their brewing dream into a reality, and it was “a shell of a light industrial building” located in Milford that caught their attention. To most, it was just a metal building with garage doors and a cement floor, but to Scott and Fischer, it was the perfect opportunity for two DIY-innovators to take a metal shell and turn it into a welcoming place to enjoy great brews.
They found Milford-based architect, Richard Pedranti, principal at Richard Pedranti Architect, who helped them turn an empty, steel building into a quality brewing facility and comfortable tasting room with breathtaking outdoor views of Raymondskill Ridge and the Sawkill Creek.
To make the design a reality, the founders did much of the work themselves. Employed as full-time IT professionals, Joe and Ryan spent nights and weekends building and assembling wall finishes, refrigerated rooms, bar counters and tables. They also received support from friends, family and the community.
And for these brewers, being craftsmen went far beyond the beer as they resourcefully reclaimed and reused materials to make the microbrewery a reality:
Recycled blackboard slate from the old Milford Schoolhouse reclaimed for beer-on-tap lists and brewery updates
High-top tables made from abandoned wooden wire spools and trunks of trees that needed to be removed from the property
Bar stools hand-welded by the proprietors themselves
Wooden shipping pallets that had run their usefulness disassembled into wood slats then used to panel the bar wall
Original cement floor transformed from a garage to a polished finish ready for thirsty guests
A perfectly sized refrigeration room found on e-Bay and disassembled, shipped and reassembled for the cold-brew room
Log Tavern Brewing is located at 309 East Harford St., Bldg. 2, in Milford. Hours are Fridays 5-9 p.m., Saturdays noon to 8 p.m., and Sundays noon to 6 p.m.
