The Port Jervis Common Council voted to approve the hiring of several city employees at their March 10 meeting. Robyn Hendershot was approved as the part-time Human Resources director effective March 17. Four seasonal laborers were approved for the recreation department as well as several lifeguards, pending their successful completion of required training and obtaining necessary certifications. The Port Jervis Police Department is looking into hiring more patrol officers.

Runaway trash

Letters from the Building Department will be sent to residents in areas where there have been complaints regarding garbage and debris. Uncovered trash cans are being left outside prior to pick up day, which allows loose garbage to be blown into neighboring yards. Fines may soon be issued under Chapter 407 of the city code in an effort to encourage proper handling of garbage.

DPW work

The Department of Public Works will soon begin to repair potholes. Residents may report potholes by calling the department at 845-858-4001. DPW has also begun constructing a splash pad and a new pavilion at Church Street Park. Bids are being solicited for the retaining wall project on Glass Street. April 22 is the last day to submit bids. Details on the bid process can be found on the city website.
