The Pike County Conservation District is seeking the public’s help in determining the level of microplastics in county bodies of water. To do this, the Conservation District is asking residents to fill out an online form through which they can name streams or rivers of concern that they wish to see tested.

Based on the stream’s location, accessibility and access rights, the Conservation District will take samples from the location and test the water for microplastics. The Conservation District noted that, once location data is collected, site sampling will begin in early 2025, with the results expected to be made public in March 2025. The Conservation District will also hold a discussion about the results and ways to reduce microplastics once analysis is complete.

Anyone interested in participating in the study is encouraged to fill out the form located at the following website: bit.ly/3Buy5DT.

The project is funded by a 2024 state DEP Environmental Education grant. For questions, contact Conservation District watershed specialist Rachel Marques at rmarques@pikepa.org or by calling 570-226-8220.
