New program to assist first time homebuyers in Pike County
Milford. Pike County will be partnering with NeighborWorks of Northeastern Pennsylvania on this initiative.
The Board of Commissioners of Pike County recently announced the launch of a First Time Homebuyer Program to assist potential homebuyers who would otherwise be unable to buy a home due to “income barriers.”
According to the county, the goal of the program is “to increase the opportunities for sustainable homeownership for low- to modest-income homebuyers by overcoming the obstacles created by the total cost of purchasing.”
In a statement, Pike County Human Services Executive Director Robert Ruiz said, “The heart and soul of this program is to empower sustainable homeownership by tearing down the financial barriers that too many faces. By providing up to 50% assistance with down payments and closing costs, we’re not just helping with the costs of purchasing a home; we’re investing in dreams, in futures, and in our beloved community within Pike County.”
Approval will be based on adjusted household income. For example, a household size of four will have a maximum income limit of $74,700.
Pike County will be partnering with NeighborWorks of Northeastern Pennsylvania (NWNEPA) on this initiative. NWNEPA will provide education services, evaluation criteria, and determine the total funds needed for each eligible individual or household.
This program operates on a first-come, first-served program basis, and is contingent on the availability of funds.
This project was financed by a grant from the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development, under the administration of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Department of Community and Economic Development.
