PennDOT updates residents on major road projects
Milford. Several projects in the area will extend well into 2025.
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) recently issued an update on the progress of several Pike County road and bridge construction projects under its authority.
”We are excited to highlight some important transportation projects that we completed in 2024, as well as those that will continue into next year,” said PennDOT Engineering District 4 Executive Richard N. Roman. “These projects demonstrate our ongoing commitment to building, maintaining, and enhancing both major and secondary corridors, allowing travelers to travel safely and efficiently throughout northeast Pennsylvania.”
In 2024, the state completed three local projects: the resurfacing of Route 590 in Lackawaxen Township, a rehabilitation project on Route 447 in Greene Township, and a culvert replacement project on Route 590, also in Lackawaxen Township.
According to PennDOT, statewide from January through October, 5,385 roadway miles were improved, including 1,941 miles of paving. In the same timeframe, work advanced on 401 state and locally owned bridges and 356 construction contracts for highway, bridge, and other improvement projects were completed through PennDOT’s private-sector partners.
However, at least five PennDOT projects in Pike County are expected to continue through 2025: a bridge preservation project on Route 590 over I-84 in Jefferson Township, a shoulder widening project on Route 739 in Blooming Grove, the reconstruction of parts of I-84 in Palmyra and a separate portion of I-84 in Dingman Township, and the ongoing bridge rehabilitation project on Route 209 in Milford Borough.
