Milford. The Pike County Commissioners on March 16 voted to establish an AMERIA250PA Commission to plan activities to celebrate Pennsylvania’s 250th anniversary in 2026.
The measure passed 2-0. Commissioner Anthony Waldron was absent.
The county also will allocate money to the commission to help support events to celebrate the milestone.
“I think many people in the community are excited about this,” Commissioners Chairman Matthew Osterberg said.
The project is headed by Cassandra Coleman, the executive director of AMERICA250PA, a former mayor of Exeter Borough. She is working on getting all of Pennsylvania’s 67 counties involved in the program. She said the program already had 21 county partners.
Part of the effort is engaging communities and municipalities.
“We do not want to build this from the top down,” Coleman said. “We are building this organically from the ground up. No one knows the communities in this commonwealth better than the people living in these communities.”
