Pike County Democrats to honor former DA Michael Weinstein
Hawley. A gala will be held Saturday, June 29, at The Steer Barn at Hemlock Farms.
The Pike County Democratic Committee (PCDC) will be honoring former Pike County district attorney and longtime activist Michael Weinstein at their annual gala, to be held Saturday, June 29, at The Steer Barn at Hemlock Farms (101 Basswood Dr., Hawley).
“We are excited to honor Mike, who has been a staunch Pike County Democrat for decades, including back in the years when there weren’t so many of us,” said PCDC Chair Lisa Miller.
Weinstein was elected Pike County district attorney in 1980 and served until 1988. In the years since, until his retirement in 2021, he was one of Pike County’s most prominent criminal defense attorneys, including representing high-profile defendants.
Originally from the Bronx, Weinstein served in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves (1966-1970), and graduated Long Island University (1964) and Brooklyn Law School (1968) before relocating to Pike County.
In addition to serving as district attorney, he served as general counsel to the Delaware Valley Central School District, he was a 40-year volunteer with the Milford Fire Department, and a founding board member of the United Way of Pike County.
The gala will also feature area resident Barbara Butcher, a former death investigator for the New York City Medical Examiner’s office. She founded and directed its Forensic Sciences Training Program and authored the book “What the Dead Know: Learning About Life as a New York City Death Investigator,” published last year. She is also featured in the “Homicide: New York” series now airing on Netflix.
The event will be a party with appetizers, drinks, music and dancing. For tickets, visit secure.actblue.com/donate/summergala2024. For more information, visit pikecountydemocrats.org.
