The Pocono Flute Society will award a $500 scholarship to a high school senior who plays flute in their school music program. The student music be a resident of Monroe, Pike or Wayne Counties in Pennsylvania, and must begin college in the fall of 2015. The student does not need to plan on being a college music major.

Interested students may apply online at www.poconoflutesociety.org. The application deadline is June 1 and the winner will be notified on or around July 1. The scholarship amount will be given to the student upon the completion of their first semester of college.

The scholarship was established by PFS member Nancy Costanzo in memory of her mother, Anne Smolik Gera.

"Anne Smolik Gera was a Hunter College graduate and lover of music and the arts. She was a dedicated educator who spent her life encouraging others to pursue their talents and gifts. She was the daughter of immigrants and the first member of her family to graduate from college. She was also the mother of a flute player and never missed a concert. Anne Smolik Gera would be proud and pleased to know that this scholarship bears her name and will help another flute player continue their music and higher education pursuits."
