The Port Jervis Area National Night Out Against Crime Committee and Port Jervis City Police Department will hold the 16th annual National Night Out Against Crime celebration on Tuesday, August 6, at 6 p.m. at Riverside Park in Port Jervis. According to the organizers, last year’s event was attended by thousands of people and featured at least 40 community-based organizations from the tri-state region.

“National Night Out is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, generate support and participation in local anti-crime efforts, strengthen neighborhood spirit and police/community relationships, and send a strong message to criminals that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back to instill a safe and positive atmosphere in our community,” Port Jervis Police Chief William Worden explained. “This important event is a celebration of our community’s commitment to improving the quality of life for our residents, especially our youth, through the promotion of positive, healthy lifestyles. This can only be accomplished through building strong partnerships between the community, local health and human service providers, faith-based organizations, local businesses, schools, civic organizations, and emergency services organizations (Police, Fire, EMS) community. Crime, drug abuse, and disorder are a community problem, and together, we can effectively address the needs of our community. We are confident that we can make a difference and send a clear message that we are united, we are strong, and that we are committed to making the Tri-State community a safe and healthy place to live and raise our families.”

Participants can enjoy free food and refreshments; DJ entertainment; free bicycle and prize raffles; games and children’s recreational activities; law enforcement, fire department and emergency medical services demonstrations and displays; and visit the many information tables and displays.
