Port Jervis. The program sends veterans to Washington D.C. to visit war memorials.
The Port Jervis school district recently shared its participation in the Hudson Valley Honor Flight program on October 21. On its Facebook page, the district praised the staff members and students who attended the event in honor of area veterans.
Douglas Sandberg, a Vietnam War veteran, was on the flight escorted by his son Joe Sandberg, who graduated from Port Jervis High School in 2002. Douglas’s granddaughter, Ella, is a seventh grader at Port Jervis Middle School.
“Both Douglas and Joe had an amazing, memorable experience and were grateful for the warm, patriotic welcome at Stewart Airport upon their return,” the school district said via Facebook. “Thank you to all who were involved! There were many volunteering hands and hearts for this event. #GoPort.”
