Postponed! Rescheduled! Cancelled!
Milford. The Milford Boy Scouts are keeping the spirit of scouting alive as they wait out the coronavirus pandemic.
Postponed! Rescheduled! Cancelled!
These three words describe most of the events for the Milford Boy Scouts. Weekly meetings, camping trips, merit badge sessions, Eagle Scout Courts of Honor and volunteering at the Ecumenical Food Pantry are all on hold for now.
Troop 71's two current fundraisers have also slowed way down. The scouts are still selling pizza vouchers to John’s of Arthur Avenue, and the adult friends of the Troop are conducting a raffle for Prime Time Meats gift cards, relying on selling through the mail, which has been understandably slow.
Some of our scout family members have been laid off as businesses close to stop the spread of the COVID-19 virus, and these families are struggling to pay the annual registration fees. We are concerned about whether the situation will turn around in time for the scouts to attend summer camp this July. Each year our Troop spends a week at Goose Pond Scout Reservation in Lake Ariel, and we have been looking forward to celebrating the camp’s 100th anniversary.
The good news is that some of the scouts are making use of their time at home to work on merit badges and rank requirements. The scouts and adult volunteers will work together (separately) to keep scout spirit alive in Milford.
