Rosemary Walsh
MILFORD. Challenger Rosemary Walsh (Democratic) is running for director of the Delaware Valley school board.
Why are you running for school board?
I am running for school board because I feel I have a perspective that is needed. As a retired teacher in the district, I have experiences that none of the other board members have.
The board has lost some of its direction in the past couple of years and needs to focus again on enriching the curriculum and reaching the needs of all students while being fiscally responsible.
What are the top three issues facing the district today and how do you plan to address them?
I think we need to help students dealing with mental health issues, focus on learning loss after Covid, and continue to provide a variety of opportunities for a diverse group of students both during and after school. In some cases, we need to provide additional staffing to guarantee that needs are being met. The schools need to be places where students and staff alike are respected and feel safe.
What sets you apart from your challengers?
I worked in our schools for almost 25 years. I understand the wonderful things we are accomplishing but also the areas that need improvement.
I have been attending school board meetings since the early 1990s, so I have seen how the board can work together to do impressive things. I look forward to working together while sharing new ideas to do what is best for the Delaware Valley community.
The board needs to work to restore a sense of trust in the community and show that our schools are a safe, healthy environment for all students to learn and grow.
Feel free to add information about your background and qualifications.
I am the mother of three DV graduates: David, Katie, and Meg Palermo. I have lived in this community since 1978.
I received my bachelor’s from Immaculate College and my master’s in reading from West Chester University and then took post-graduate classes to maintain my teaching certificate.
I am actively involved in several local volunteer groups.
I look forward to helping to maintain the strong presence Delaware Valley School District has in our corner of Pennsylvania.
