Penn State Extension is co-sponsoring the Safe Drinking Water Workshop from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 23, at the Pike County Training Center on Route 739 in Lords Valley.

The free workshop will provide education on proper location, construction, testing, maintenance, protection and treatment of private drinking water supplies.

Participants can bring a sample of their drinking water for on-site water testing for several water quality parameters including coliform bacteria, E. coli bacteria, pH, total dissolved solids, and nitrate. All tests except bacteria will occur during the workshop so participants can discuss their results with the extension presenter.

The water testing is for educational purposes only and is not being conducted through a state-certified drinking water laboratory.

Penn State Extension and its Master Well Owner Network are partnering with the Pike County Conservation District and the Pennsylvania Groundwater Association to offer this event.

For more information on the safe drinking water program or water testing, contact Peter Wulfhorst, economic and community development extension educator in Pike County, at 570-832-2803 or ptw3@psu.edu.
