Skinners Falls Bridge to be closed until further notice
Damascus. The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation says it has found structural problems that warrant closure.
The Skinners Falls Bridge (Milanville Road) will be closed until further notice, according to an Oct. 18 announcement the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation's District 4.
PennDOT says its recent inspection of the bridge, which spans the Delaware River at Damascus, found various structural problems that warranted closure.
The bridge is located within the Upper Delaware Scenic and Recreational River and is part of the Joint Interstate Bridge Commission. One of 10 bridges in that connect Pennsylvania with New York, its average daily traffic is about 325 cars. The bridge was originally built in 1901 and is listed on the National Registry of Historic Places.
PennDOT says it is coordinating with the New York State Department of Transportation and other state and federal agencies to determine the next step for the bridge.
A detour will be posted from SR 1002 to SR 1004 (Milanville Road) to SR 1008 (Plank Road) to the Narrowsburg Bridge and to SR 97 in New York.
