Talking technology with Dr. Gina Vives

By DVE-News/TV
MILFORD — We were very excited to interview Dr. Vives. She has been working for the Delaware Valley School District for about 23 years.
Dr. Vives has been working in technology for DV for about 20 years. Prior to that she was a first grade teacher in Shohola for two years. At that time, she got interested in technology. Dr. Vives was asked how technology changed in 20 years. She mentioned that there were no cell phones or wireless capabilities. There was dial up that was extremely slow. Technology also changed from computers being as big as a large cardboard box to a computer that can fit into your backpack.
Dr. Vives was then asked what a typical day was like for her. She said that her days are not typical, all days are different. Her typical day is always changing from one day working computers to the next day working with a whole school. There is a lot of problem solving involved and she works with the superintendent and with teachers. When asked how much work was put into the new DVES, she said they put about ten years’ worth of work, with a lot of research and checking into cost efficiency. Then four years ago, they began working on the technology part of the school.
Talking of technology, Dr. Vives was asked what kind of technology went into the new high school gym. She said that it is equipped with wireless technology, and flat panel TV’s so coaches can review and share with the athletes. When asked what she envisioned for DVE-News/TV, she is hoping that DVTV will be in all the schools. She would like to get similar technology for all the schools and that she would be looking to DVE-News/TV to help mentor and teach other students in our other schools. She would also like to get a green screen and have more digital technology available for DVE-TV. Lastly, she wanted to share that she would like all students to be responsible users of technology and hard workers. She wanted us to dream and work hard to get there.
