Troop 76 holds Court of Honor

SHOHOLA — Boy Scout Troop 76 of Shohola held their Court of Honor this past month.

This is a formal tradition that is held to honor the scouts who have earned achievements during the past year. At the commencement of the ceremony, Dominick Corrieri, Webelo Scout of Milford Pack 71, crossed over to Boy Scouting. Not only did he receive a warm welcome from the scoutmaster, assistant scoutmaster, and scouts, but he was also presented with a neckerchief and Boy Scout Handbook.

In total, 22 Merit Badges were earned and presented during this ceremony. Specifically, the badges that were earned included: eight for first aid, 10 for horsemanship, one for personal fitness, one for personal management, one for sports, one for fishing, and one for citizenship of the world.

A total of eight rank advancements were earned, as well. Four scouts advanced to the rank of second class and four advanced to the rank of first class.

Scoutmaster Joe Malanio, who served as scoutmaster for a number of years, announced his intention to step down from his position. Malanio, a pillar of the Troop, received an emotional standing ovation from his scouts and their parents.

Moving forward, Malanio announced that Assistant Scoutmaster Herb Rinkel, has been appointed as scoutmaster. He wished Rinkel well and said that he was confident that the troop would flourish under his leadership.

To conclude the ceremony, a potluck supper was served, which included everything from meatballs to chocolate cake.
