Two DVES Odyssey teams advance to world finals

Matamoras. Both teams excelled in the state and regional competitions, winning a spot on the world stage this month.

The Delaware Valley Elementary School Odyssey of the Mind Theatrical Team under coach Tammy Curtis placed first in the North-East PA Regional Competition and went on to compete in the OoTM PA State Competition in April.

Superhero Socks

The Division 1 Elementary team includes fifth grader Camryn Yakupcin, fourth graders Eva DeLauro and Skylar Shin, and third graders Allyson Masone, Ariel Ostrout, Sekai Jones, and Emily Giblin.

Students presented a solution to the Odyssey of the Mind Problem 5 Superhero Socks, which challenged students to create a skit about a new superhero character. The skit began with the cliff-hanger ending and proceeded to tell the story of the superhero character, Butter Woman, who risks her life to save her best friend, Waffle, from the evil Butter-Knife and sidekick Frying Pan.

The students place third in the State Competition and will go on to compete in the Virtual Odyssey of the Mind World Finals this month.

It’s a Trap

The Delaware Valley Elementary School Odyssey of the Mind Structure Team, coached by Sarah Casey and Chuck Pike, placed first in the North-East PA Regional Competition and went on to compete in the OoTM PA State Competition in April.

The Division 1 Elementary team includes Trent Kaylor, Daisy Olivo-Heller, Rogue Cronin Snook, Raymond Leimkuhler, Emma June May, Connor Stewart, and Taryn Kaylor.

Students presented a solution to the Odyssey of the Mind Problem 4 It’s A Trap. The team created a performance incorporating three different traps. They also built a balsa wood structure that weighs less than 15 grams. The structure held 684 pounds.
The students placed second in the PA State Competition and will go on to compete in the Virtual Odyssey of the Mind World Finals this month.
