PennDOT previews 2024 construction in the northeast region
Lackawaxen Township. In addition to ongoing improvements to I-84, the department will also resurface areas of Route 590, among others.
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) Engineering District 4, which covers Lackawanna, Luzerne, Pike, Susquehanna, Wayne, and Wyoming counties, highlighted 102 projects anticipated to start during the 2024 construction season, and 99 projects that will continue. The Department anticipates investing more than $276 million this year in the region’s infrastructure.
“A well-maintained transportation system is key to the economic vitality of our state and country,” said PennDOT Engineering District 4 Executive Richard N. Roman, P.E. “We are starting 102 new projects this construction season and are continuing to be aggressive with overall highway and bridge maintenance activities.”
Overall highlights in the 2024 construction season for District 4 include:
• 140 miles of roadway improvements.
• 175 bridges will be addressed.
• 550 miles of seal coat.
• 975 miles of crack seal.
• 720 miles of shoulder cutting.
Pike County-specific projects include a resurfacing project on Route 590 in Lackawaxen Township and a structure replacement project on Route 390 (Promised Land Road) over Promised Land Lake in Greene Township.
Wayne County will see a bridge replacement project on Route 590 (Mount Cobb Highway) in Salem Township and a bridge replacement project on Route 3002 (Spring Hill Road) over Stephen’s Creek in Sterling Township. There will also be several resurfacing projects: on Route 296 (Eaton Turnpike) in South Canaan Township, Route 170 (Creek Drive) in Clinton Township, Route 3016 (Keystone Road) in Lake Township, Route 3019 (Keystone Road) in Lake Township, Route 6 (Roosevelt Highway) in Waymart Borough, and Route 6 (Park Street) in Honesdale Borough.
Notable projects that will continue this year: include the resurfacing and bridge preservation project on I-84 eastbound and westbound in Lackawanna and Wayne counties; roadway reconstruction and bridge replacement project on I-84 from Route 3005 (Forks Bridge Road) to Exit 26 (Promised Land State Park/Tafton) in Greene, Palmyra, and Sterling townships in Pike and Wayne counties; interstate roadway reconstruction on I-84 from milepost 40 to Exit 46 (Milford) in Pike County; and interstate roadway reconstruction and bridge replacement projects on I-84 from the Palmyra Rest Area to Exit 34 (Lords Valley/Dingmans Ferry) in Palmyra and Blooming Grove townships, Pike County.
