Dispositions in Pike County Court
Milford. Pike County District Attorney Raymond J. Tonkin announced the criminal sentences issued March 25 and 29 by Pike County Court of Common Pleas President Judge Gregory Chelak.

Michael Salvatore Carcaterra, 34, of Bushkill, Pa., was sentenced to 6 months of probation and fined $200 for the crime of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, to run concurrent with his previous sentence. Carcaterra was found in violation of his probation during a home visit at his residence by the Probation Office on Feb. 5, 2020, where he was found in possession of drug paraphernalia, including a glass pipe and glassine packets.
Alexa Atlanta Viohl, 28, of Greentown, Pa., was sentenced to the Pike Care Program for five years, which will include 90 days of house arrest, a fine of $2,500, and a driver’s license suspension for 18 months for the crime of Driving Under the Influence of a Controlled Substance. The state police were dispatched to a one-vehicle crash along SR 507 on Sept. 13, 2020, where Viohl had driven off the road and into a pond. When talking with Viohl, the trooper observed her to be anxious with droopy eyelids, constricted pupils, and bloodshot eyes. Viohl admitted to taking Subutex prior to driving. Field sobriety tests showed impairment. Viohl refused to submit to a blood test.
Jacqueline Susan Schurich, 42, of Dingmans Ferry, Pa., was sentenced to the Pike Care Program, which will include 6 months of probation, 30 days of house arrest, a fine of $1,000, and driver’s license suspension for 12 months for the crime of Driving Under the Influence. The state police were dispatched to SR 739 in Dingman Township, where Schurich was observed driving erratically. Upon making contact with Schurich, the trooper detected the smell of an alcoholic beverage. Schurich admitted to drinking prior to driving. Field sobriety tests indicated impairmen,t and a breath test confirmed a blood-alcohol content of 0.197%.
John Andrew Myers, 54, of Chester, N.J., was sentenced to 72 hours to 6 months in the Pike County Jail, fined $1,000, and had his driver’s license suspended for 12 months for the crime of Driving Under the Influence. The state police were dispatched to a parking lot along Route 507 in Palmyra Township, where Myers was parked after having been observed driving unsafely and striking a fence. Myers was observed by the trooper to be sweating, disoriented, having bloodshot, glassy eyes, and emitting the smell of an alcoholic beverage. Myers refused to participate in field sobriety tests or submit to a breath test.
Rasonia Squire, 45, of Poughkeepsie, N.Y., was sentenced to 5 days to 6 months in the Pike County Jail, fined $300, and had her driver’s license suspended for 12 months for the crime of Driving Under the Influence. The state police pulled over Squire along I-84 in Blooming Grove Township on Jan. 11, 2020, for driving erratically. When speaking with Squire, the trooper detected the smell of an alcoholic beverage. She was also observed to have bloodshot, glassy eyes and slow and slurred speech and a confused demeanor. A bottle of wine and partially consumed bottle of whisky were observed in Squire’s vehicle. Squire refused to submit to a breath test.
Daniel J. Mette, 64, of Lovell, Maine, was sentenced to the Pike Care Program, which will include 6 months of probation, one month of house arrest, a fine of $750, and a driver’s license suspension of 12 months for the crime of Driving Under the Influence. The state police were dispatched to a one-vehicle crash along SR 739 in Dingman Township on July 19, 2020. In speaking with Mette, the trooper detected the smell of an alcoholic beverage and observed Mette to have glassy, bloodshot eyes. Mette admitted to having a beer prior to driving. Field sobriety tests showed impairment, and a breath test confirmed a blood-alcohol content of 0.165%.
Gary Alan Miller, 69, of Bushkill, Pa., was sentenced to 90 days to 5 years in the Pike County Jail, fined $1,500, and had his driver’s license suspended for 18 months for the crime of Driving Under the Influence. The state police were dispatched to a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Winona Falls Road and Stoney Hollow Drive in Lehman Township, where Miller drove into another vehicle. When Miller was located, the trooper detected the smell of an alcoholic beverage and observed Miller to have bloodshot, glassy eyes. Miller admitted to consuming alcohol prior to driving. Field sobriety tests showed impairment, and a breath test confirmed a blood-alcohol content of 0.164%.
Jessica Lynne Abbott, 22, of Milford, Pa., was sentenced to 2 years of probation and fined $600 for the crimes of Theft by Unlawful Taking and Access Device Fraud. Abbott took two credit cards from an individual’s home in Delaware Township and made unauthorized purchases in the amount of $465.55 at various locations in Pike County between Dec. 27, 2019, and Jan. 6, 2020.
Jacek Mojsa, 50, of Springbrook Township, Pa., was sentenced to 6 months of probation less ten days, 30 days of house arrest, a fine of $800, and driver’s license suspension of 12 months for the crime of Driving Under the Influence and the Summary Offense of Prohibiting Text Based Communications. Mojsa was stopped by the state police for speeding along I-84 in Palmyra Township and face-timing while driving on Jan. 9, 2020. Mojsa was observed to have glassy, bloodshot eyes and was emitting the smell of an alcoholic beverage. Mojsa admitted to drinking prior to driving. Field sobriety tests showed impairment, and a breath test confirmed a blood-alcohol content of 0.156%.
Daniel Louis Canales, 29, of East Stroudsburg, Pa., was sentenced to 2 years of probation and fined $600 for 2 counts of the crime of Simple Assault. Canales yelled obscenities at two individuals traveling in their vehicle along Circle Court in Lehman Township on July 21, 2019. When the two individuals exited their vehicle, they were approached by Canales, who pushed and struck one individual and then struck the other individual.
Michael G. Landis, 36, of Greentown, Pa., was sentenced to the Pike Care program, which will include 5 years of probation with the first 90 days of house arrest, a fine of $1,500, and driver’s license suspension of 18 months for the crime of Driving Under the Influence. The state police responded to a one-vehicle crash on Dec. 24, 2019, along Tree Top Circle in Greene Township, where Landis drove into a tree. Landis stated that he had been drinking prior to the crash. Field sobriety tests showed impairment, and a blood test confirmed a blood-alcohol content of 0.295% in his body.
Darick Sylvain, 32, of Brentwood, N.Y., was sentenced to 12 months to 24 months in a state correctional facility and fined $800 for the crimes of Criminal Trespass and Possessing Instrument of Crime. On Oct. 20, 2018, Sylvain illegally gained entry into a business in Westfall Township in an attempt to steal cellular phones.
Deanna Elizabeth Morrison, 30, of Wilkes-Barre, Pa., was sentenced to a fine of $75 for the Summary Offense of Driving an Unregistered Vehicle. The state police stopped Morrision on Feb. 12, 2020, while traveling along Route 6 in Palmyra Township for driving an unregistered vehicle.
