Delaware Valley beats Western Wayne 70-39
Milford. The varsity boys’ basketball team managed to stay ahead in each quarter.
The February 5 Delaware Valley boys’ basketball game was a total pleasure. It was a pleasure to all the local faithful fans, a pleasure to the players, the coaches and the entire community.
Delaware Valley played Western Wayne and won by a score of 70-39, a complete runaway for Delaware Valley. The team needed this after a season that had not materialized as productively as we all hoped.
The team has good talent, but it just happened to be a year where all the area competitors were also having good seasons. That being what it was, Delaware Valley played every game very hard and gave its very best.
The JV and freshman teams, nonetheless, had good seasons and filled us all with hope for the future.
The season is winding down with just a few games left so it might just be time to set the table for the future. In the meantime, I hope that the seniors can score as much as possible to fluff their personal records. But hey, pay no attention to me I’m just letting my thoughts run wild here.
The Delaware Valley players had ample opportunity to score in this game and they took full advantage of it.
It’s nice to see Isiah Berrios scoring like we all know he can. The result was 17 points by Berrios. He is a good ball handler, rebounder and when he gets hot he can really rack up the points. He and Tyler Lombardo both led the way as Lombardo put in 17 points as well. Lombardo will have a big year next year. He too is an all-around player. He scores very well from anywhere on the court. He also handles the ball like a guard and is a powerful rebounder.
Tommy Parker is usually the top scorer and had 16 points. He is a deadly shooter who can always be counted to score on demand.
Login Olsommer had a nice evening, scoring 10 points. Olsommer is a totally unselfish player who is the lead guard, satisfied with letting the other players score while he handles the ball.
Nick Jorgensen is a fun player to watch; he put in 5 points. Alex Calvalario had 3 points while Jackson Corrie had 2. Corrie is another steady player and a great complement to the team.
In the first quarter, Delaware Valley scored 23 and Western Wayne scored 4, in the second quarter the team added nine points, and Western Wayne added 17, making the score at half time 32-21 Delaware Valley.
In the third quarter Delaware Valley added 25 while Western Wayne added 5. The final period saw Delaware Valley and Western Wayne both gain 13 points. So that gave us the final total of Delaware Valley winning 70-39.
This was a nice breather that these guys really needed.
