Delaware Valley celebrates Homecoming, and two field hockey wins
Milford. Food, music, cars, and killer sports competitions... what more could you want?
On Saturday, September 30, Delaware Valley High School held its Homecoming extravaganza, featuring two girls field hockey games against Pine Bush. First up was the varsity team, followed by the JV team.
Ok a bit later about that. First, let’s talk about the homecoming event. Expectations were high and they did not disappoint. There was music blasting the whole time. There were concession stands galore and food to please anyone, even good old-fashioned Pennsylvania funnel cake.
This was followed by bands, which were really good. There was a car show and school events honoring the players and choosing the King and Queen.
Who here remembers Pike County Days when it was held in town? This was Pike County Days on steroids! If you missed it we’ll then you missed out on a great Saturday event.
Now back to the girls’ field hockey game.
In the first quarter the DV girls went up 2-0. Anaya Ruiz and Angela Olsen scored and were assisted by Nicki Musselwhite and Ava Kraszewski, respectively. In the second quarter Delaware Valley continued their merry ways with Ruiz scoring again and assisted again by Musslewhite. Delaware Valley went up 3-0. In the third quarter Ruiz scored yet again, this time assisted by Olsen bring the score up to 4-0.
In the fourth and final quarter, Bailey Ryan scored the final goal, assisted by Ciara Newton. It must be added that Kayla Sykes really contributed to the score. She had a shot on goal that was blocked by the goalie, but the ball hovered around the net that allowed the score. Sykes seemed to be somehow in every play. She was all over the field. She was perpetual motion. Even after the game was over she was disassembling the goal area. The varsity team won 5-0.
The JV girls also won, with a score of 3-0.
