Delaware Valley football comes out ahead against tough competitor
Milford. The team played Scranton Prep, who was 4-0.
Delaware Valley High School’s football team may have lost the first three games but those three games were against three top-rated teams in Pennsylvania. Those early season games that coach Keith Olsommer schedules every year serve to toughen up the players and get them ready for the toughest area teams.
So what has Delaware Valley done so far? After beating Wallenpaupack 41-14, the team followed that up by traveling to Dunmore and taking on the top-rated Scranton Prep, a team who was sitting at 4-0.
Big game, right? Tough game, right? But Delaware Valley still managed to hand Scranton Prep its first loss of the season by a score of 31-27.
Max Preps, a national source for school sport statistics, named Logan Olsommer the offensive player of the game, Justin Kalitsnik the defensive player of the game, Aiden Conklin on special teams, and Aiden Black as the overall player of the game.
Although this victory is as big as it gets, this doesn’t mean that the rest of the season will be a cake walk. Nope, because next up is the always tough North Pocono, and lurking in the future is the — so far undefeated — Valley View.
But let’s not get ahead of ourselves. Let’s focus on one game at a time. That game is North Pocono. If you want a really exciting Saturday afternoon, come out and be at the DV Stadium on Saturday at 4 p.m. This will not be just another football game. It is the homecoming extravaganza. There will be ceremonies, food and, of course, another great football game.
This is a local event. It honors the community, the school system, the coaches and, of course, the terrific athletes. Come out and support them all. The student body is loud and fun. They are very sportsmanlike. They honor and cheer for quality plays of the opposing teams as much as they cheer on the home players, as well as their bands and cheerleaders. It is a pleasure to watch.
The community support is always outstanding also, so keep up the community pride.
