With the weather finally starting to warm up, high school sports fans can focus on following spring time outdoor athletic activities such as baseball, softball, lacrosse and tennis. But, it’s very much worth noting that one of the spring season’s most action-packed sports takes place inside the gymnasium — volleyball.

The Delaware Valley High School boys’ volleyball program is getting ready for another exciting season on the court. The Warriors are scheduled to host Tunkhannock on Monday, March 24.

“We are hoping our seniors help reestablish our program’s ultimate goal, which is one team one family,” Delaware Valley head coach Heather Holdredge said. “We believe our program’s success is the result of the hard work put in by the players that have played in the past. We are continuously building off prior success to reach new levels. We have to rekindle that relationship and mentality this year in order to have continued success.”

Senior student athletes helping to guide the Warriors toward their goals this year include Gino Gualandi (outside hitter), Demetri Anc (outside hitter), Jack Greening (opposite), Luke Peereboom (middle), and Brendin Koh (Libero).

Leadership could indeed be a key factor in favor of Delaware Valley this spring.

“We have a great group of seniors this year who exhibit leadership qualities in one way or another,” Holdredge said. “We are hoping that they hold themselves and their teammates accountable, take responsibility, and know that everything each player does has a direct impact on their teammates and our success.”

Holdredge also noted that the team has a lot of young promising players this year. “One that stands out is a sophomore Eric Choi, who is a setter.”

The Warriors finished the 2024 season with a very fine overall record of 15-4. They fully expect to face a lot of tough competition on the court this season.

“We are hoping to surprise a lot of teams this year who think we are rebuilding,” Holdredge said.

This season, the Warriors compete in the Wyoming Valley Conference. Coach Holdredge believes that Wilkes-Barre Area and Holy Redeemer will be among the top teams to beat in the conference this year.
