On January 13, Delaware Valley boys’ basketball team went up against Valley View, which had previously lost against Wallenpaupack, a team that DV dealt a good old-fashioned beat down last Friday. So, a really exciting game and a victory against Valley View was not out of the question. Hope was springing eternal.

Now for some of the varsity details and a reality shock. DV made some bad passes in the first period, giving Valley View an early lead at 11-9.

DV was also shooting terribly, which continued into the second period. DV just could not make a basket. In the second half the score was 21-13 Valley View.

Up to this point Valley View was also not shooting well, otherwise it would have already been a run away.

In the third period, Valley View began shooting better while DV managed to score a few points. The third period ended with Valley View still up 37-24.

I have to give Valley View credit, they were very good passers and managed to hit the open man consistently. Conversely, DV missed layups, close up shots, and outside shots.

Tyler Lombardo hit a three-pointer, as did Isaiah Berrios and Sam Wood. There were also a few layups made by Berrios and Logan Olsommer.

It’s not that DV played poorly, they actually played very well. They didn’t make terrible passes, they didn’t throw away the ball and rebounded well, but they just missed almost every shot that they took. Had they hit half of those shots, we would have had a real barn burner.

DV took a serious spanking with a final score of 50-32 Valley View.

The JV team also suffered a defeat, but it was a much closer game. They were still without James Dabney who might have just been the difference in this game. Big Ben Ioffe played very well, doing all he could to pick up the slack, hitting for 13 points. Joe D’Antuono also worked hard and chipped in 10 points while Matthew Marotta put in nine. Harrison Bixby had a good game and scored seven.

The final score for the JV team was 52-47 Valley View.
