The Delaware Valley High School girls’ basketball team recently held its senior night, which included a game against West Scranton.

This was the very best senior night that I ever saw at DV, for boys or girls and for any sport. The excitement created was infectious and emotionally moving. These girls were the stars of the evening and they were going to enjoy it. They were happy, laughing, and jubilant. You couldn’t help but get caught up in the moment.

There was just one catch: after this season we’ll never see these seniors play for Delaware Valley again. There is a profound sadness with that realization but life marches on.

Well now about the games. The JV team was nothing short of spectacular. The players came out smoking and playing like pros. They were crisp, passing and hitting the player who had the best probability of scoring, defense was outstanding, and the shooting was amazing.

In the first period, DV was up 20-2. By second period, the score was 38-10 DV. In the third period, it was 47-15, even with liberal substitutions. The final score was 56-21 DV.

Krystina Orby scored 20 points but that is only a fraction of the game that she had. She played flawlessly, and was a terror on defense — stealing the ball, blocking the West Scranton players while also being the floor general, bringing up the ball and setting up plays.

Josie Lordi and Paris Machado both had super games as well. They each pumped in 12 points and were also in command defensively along with their high point output. Cecelia Dickerson added six points to her outstanding game, and Brianna Waldron and Hailey Westidge both added three points each. Waldron was strong on defense and rebounding as well.

Delaware Valley was like a well-oiled machine marching to a superb victory.

The varsity girls’ team also won with a final score of 69-59.

On the varsity side, Ciara Newton led DV’s scoring with 15 points. Keira Lazzaro shone bright by scoring 13 points. Rainna Carr is a powerhouse player. She is never out-rebounded and she is a layup queen. Her total was 10 points. Brianna Waldron also scored 10 points. She is a junior so she will be back next year.

Then there was junior Jordan Dickerson who gets hot and scores in bunches. She hit for seven points.

It was an amazing evening. The girls won both games, capping off a fantastic senior night. Senior players honored that evening include Ciara Newton, Keira Lazzaro, Shannon Eby, and Rainna Carr, as well as team manager Jen Pasalau.
