The Delaware Valley High school girls’ JV basketball team had a great game against Abington Heights. They played near perfect defense and were passing crisply at first, earning a 9-2 lead at the end of the first period.

Abington made some really poor shot selections but DV also made some poor passing choices.

In the second period, DV’s passing improved, but they just missed too many shots. Still, they closed out the half up 21-9.

In the third period, DV wasn’t quite as strong as in the first half. Rebounding suffered as well. At the same time Abington became very defensive, but DV remained ahead at 34-21.

In the final period, DV put it all together. They buckled down on defense with Krystina Orby leading the way being a pure defensive demon.

Josie Lordi, Hailey Westidge, and Cecelia Dickerson were all steady players who really stood out. Riley Newton took over the boards with her rebounds and blocked shots. Paris Machado was a top scorer with 15 points. The final score for the JV team was 41-28 DV.

The varsity girls didn’t fare as well. Abington Heights had a tenacious defense and benefited from some errant passing from DV. At halftime Abington was up 25-21.

In the third period, DV actually went up by seven at one point before they let it slip away. Then Abington led at 38-27.

In the final period, Abington would not let DV breathe. It was just not their night. Abington Heights took the victory by a score of 45-34.

Top scorers were Keira Lazzaro with 13 points, Amanda Aragona with 10, and Leah Bird with nine.
