— The Delaware Valley High School swimming and diving program continues its championship-level winning attitude this winter, both in individual events and team-wide.
A long tradition of victory helps propel the Warriors forward toward greater success, as does leadership from the coaching staff and the captains on the roster.
This season, the team captains for Delaware Valley include several remarkable student-athletes in the senior class.
The girls' captains are Hannah Grathwohl, Esther Lee, Kelsie Moffa, and Caroline Toomer. The boys are Jonathan Manning, Ryan Mrozinski, Roger Saumure, and Paul Torres.
"The girls were voted by their teammates to be captains and the boys were chosen by their former coach as the eligible captains," said Delaware Valley head coach Chelsea Shatt. “The most noteworthy part about my captains in the pool is that they are so versatile, I can put them in any of the events and they will succeed.”
While each captain is special in his or her own way, they share important traits. Student-athletes earn the honor of being team captains.
“Their leadership has improved greatly from the beginning of the season as well,” Shatt said. “The captains have taken a big team and brought all the athletes together. They have created a close-knit group of kids that I would call a family. The captains are at practice every day encouraging their teammates to become better athletes.”
Shatt mentioned several other student-athletes contributing in significant ways this season.
“Other notable athletes would be freshmen Bobby Holderith, Victoria Corcoran, Sierra Hartmann, Marissa Dambach, and Alexis Ristaino,” Shatt said. “Sophomores Steven Schermerhorn, Evan Dong, Sierra Gillan, Miranda Murray, and Julia Weinreb and juniors Aedan Walter, Damian Baranowski, Luke Stevens, and Shannon Deignan" also contribute.
“I also want to note that our divers Taliyah Booker, Alyssa Harlin, Jake Wenzel, and Jack Lutfy have all improved greatly since the beginning of the season and are contributing to the wins we have had so far,” Shatt said.
The team is doing really well.
"All of these wins have been a team effort," said Shatt. "We are a big team with incredible potential, and I am excited to see how we progress throughout the year.”
The Warriors are scheduled to compete at Scranton Preparatory School on Feb. 14.
