DV varsity football loses to Valley View
Milford. Their next game will be this Friday against North Pocono.
So here is the DVHS football report from Friday’s game. How does that line from the song American Pie go again? Oh yeah... “Bad news on the doorstep, I couldn’t take one more step.” So here it is:
Hope was springing eternal after the DV monster win against the NY undefeated powerhouse Long Island Lutheran. Yep, we all were expecting DV to run the table for the rest of the year but alas that was not destined to happen.
Our Warriors had to travel to Valley View, a team that lost its first game but then went on to win their next six games. So, let’s give credit where credit is due. Although they are not loaded with the biggest or the most talented players, they sure can play excellent football. They are as good as their now seven straight wins (counting the DV game) would indicate and to top it off they had the game plan to beat DV and they executed it perfectly. They managed an impressive 35-25 victory against DV. So, what does this mean for our Warriors? Well despite a very un-Delaware Valley-like season sitting at 3-5, they are still a very good football team. They are dangerous for any team to play and I believe that they will post up some nice wins as the season winds down.
Plus, this underclassman team holds a very bright outlook for the future. My count has 15 seniors, 20 juniors, 21 sophomores, and one freshman. That’s 42 underclassmen to 15 seniors. We can expect good football to continue at Delaware Valley.
There were some outstanding performers from Friday’s game. Mike Iuzzolino had his usual outstanding game, with one touchdown, a two-point conversion, a blocked Valley View punt, and several really nice gains. He is definitely a workhorse for this team and an all-around good football player on both offense and defense.
Logan Olsommer scored a touchdown and had as well a game as expected while suffering from one of the poorer protection games this year. Ryan Decker is an absolutely outstanding kicker. Extra points and field goals are an absolute given. Justin Estevez is an all-around good player on both sides of the ball. James Dabney is developing along very well as a receiver. He also seems to have grown several inches over the summer now billed at 6’4”, so we should expect good things from him in basketball and volleyball as well. He is young and may still have some growing in him.
The next game will be against North Pocono October 18, and the regular season will conclude with Scranton. Both are conference games and must-wins.
