Pike County fishing report

| 29 Sep 2011 | 09:01

From the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission PIKE COUNTY - Overall, there has been limited fishing activity this past week. With all the rain, streams in the area are running high. A few trout were being caught in area trout waters. Bass fishing on Lake Wallenpaupack has slowed way down over the past week. The Masthope Creek should fish well once the water levels recede. The recent rains and influx of cooler more heavily oxygenated water should help the trout in this freestone stream to wake up and feed. Try to get on the stream in the early morning or evening. Panfish are cooperating on some area public waters. For some solitude (at least as close as you can get to it in the Poconos) try White Deer Lake. Located off of Route 402 north of the Pennsylvania State Police Barracks in Blooming Grove. This pond is on Pennsylvania state land and is open to the public. The lake is best enjoyed from a boat as there is little shoreline access. All boats launching must have either a current registration, fish commission launch permit, Department of Conservation and Natural Resources launch permit or a DCNR mooring permit. This water is limited to electric motors only and is perfectly suited for kayaks and canoes. Don’t forget your life jacket.
