Veterans return as fall sports practices get underway at Delaware Valley
WESTFALL - The seasons change and earlier this month the first practices began for fall sports at Delaware Valley. From the Dingman’s campus to the high school to Airport Park, Delaware Valley athletes can be seen preparing for their upcoming season. Girls’ volleyball is among these many teams. Last season the team won the Lackawanna League Championship as well as the District Championship. The girls will be playing in a different, more competitive, league this season. Tryouts ran from Aug. 7 to Aug. 10, and pre-season practice with the new team started that Thursday afternoon. Two sessions of practice will continue throughout next week, and will lead them up to their first home game on Sept. 1. The girls were busy running drills, passing, and serving. Each day they concentrated on a specific skill. This year’s varsity team has all but three returning players. Samantha Morgan, returning varsity player, pointed out that the girls beat some of the teams within the new league last year, saying that, “It’s a good indication of how we’ll be able to compete with these teams come the season.” Morgan describes the team as “solid”, noting the large number of returning players.
