Warrior football captains lead the way
Milford. The captains this year were Luke Brazanskas, Amir Guillite, Logan Olsommer, and Pasquale Venetucci.
Sports fans across the country are well aware of the sheer toughness that is high school football in the state of Pennsylvania. Right in the middle of the action this season, as they are every year, is the Delaware Valley High School football program.
Helping to lead the way in a big way for the Warriors on the field in 2024 are the four senior captains on the roster: Luke Brazanskas, Amir Guillite, Logan Olsommer, and Pasquale Venetucci.
“These players were selected because of the leadership abilities they have shown over the past three seasons,” Delaware Valley Head Coach Keith Olsommer said. “They all put a ton of time in in the offseason and all were returning starters for us this year.”
Each of the captains has certainly made positive individual impacts on the gridiron thus far this regular season.
“Amir and Pasquale lead our offensive and defensive lines, respectively,” Coach Olsommer said. “Logan has thrown for over 1,200 yards through nine weeks and Luke leads our team in sacks with six for the season.”
Coach Olsommer has noticed the ways in which all four captains have improved as football players. Also, the coaching staff is impressed with the team unity promoted by the captains.
“Leadership, holding the team together through tough times — we had a very difficult schedule this season,’’ Coach Olsommer said. “These guys have stepped up with leadership and holding the team together. All four players are looking to play at the next level.
“The players encourage each other, they pick one another up when they are down. They hold one another accountable when needed, and provide another voice for the coaches in the locker room.”
Through October, the Warriors had five overall victories. Several student athletes on the roster have contributed to these well-earned wins.
“Mike Iuzzolino has been exceptional for us running the ball this season,” Coach Olsommer said. “He continues to improve each week. Trey Newton has already broken the single season reception mark as a freshman and has been outstanding. Justin Estevez has been a force on our defense, leading an inexperienced group. Colin McGarvey has played all over for us and is a valuable a player as we have. He can play several positions on both sides of the ball.”
He added, “With a fairly inexperienced group returning, these guys have fought hard all season. We have let a few games slip away from us, but overall I think we have competed hard and put ourselves in position to compete for another District championship. This is one of the toughest schedules we have ever had to play.”
